Hi, everyone!
I’m back with yet another magazine review, but not for Dolly*Dolly this time — our last shipment contained the latest issue of Dollybird, Volume 16! This will be my first Dollybird review, so I’m pretty excited — this magazine is very popular, and tends to sell out before I get the chance to review it. Much like Dolly*Dolly, Dollybird is a Japanese doll magazine, but with a more artsy, mature feel — Dollybird also tends to cover a narrower range of dolls, usually choosing to focus more intensely (i.e., have more content) on only a few different doll types per issue. Much like Dolly*Dolly, Dollybird will often have step-by-step photo tutorials on various crafting techniques, but Dollybird’s tend to be more detailed and photo-intensive.

Dollybird Vol. 16!
Dollybird Vol. 16 focuses mainly on Blythe and Unoa, and in accordance with the issue’s theme of “Styling,” there are tons of photos of Blythe and Unoa dolls in many different kinds of beautiful outfits, the patterns for several of which are included in the issue. In addition, there’s an introductory article on the new Unoa Ange and Belia dolls, as well as several styling tutorials that go over different kinds of accessories, hairstyling, trims/embellishments, and more! While patterns designed for Unoa will be too slender for Mini Super Dollfie, they should work beautifully for Super Dollfie Cute, and patterns designed for Unoa Zero can be modified to fit SD16 girls! Blythe patterns can also easily be adapted for 27cm Dollfies.

There are several cute patterns for Unoa girls and boys, perfectly sized for slender minis like SD Cutes!

In addition to patterns, there are several smaller features on styling and accessorizing -- learn how to add some pizazz to your doll's outfits!

Additional tutorials on makeup (detailed down to the paint colors!), and how to create miniature dolly-sized sweets!
There are also smaller features on Tiny Betsy McCall, Polly Pocket, Toys Field KUMA, and most importantly, Dollfie Dream! There’s a feature on DD that not only includes the pattern to make a super-cute DD M-bust outfit (including thigh-high stockings, garter, and headpiece!), but also contains makeup instructions, and a tutorial on how to sculpt and paint your own animetic eyes. Finally, there is an extensive photo tutorial that will teach you how to make a pants pattern — the tutorial demonstrates using a Unoa boy, but is a generic tutorial meant to be used for any kind of doll.

Learn how to make all the pieces of this adorable DD (M bust) outfit using the included patterns!

Do you think the #4 DD girl shown in the picture above is cute? You're in luck! This issue includes a step-by-step photo tutorial on how to recreate her makeup, as well as how to use epoxy putty and paint to create a custom pair of animetic eyes!
Much like Dolly*Dolly, Dollybird has a new doll/upcoming release section, albeit more clean and minimal in design — also like Dolly*Dolly, there’s some SD content to be found here and there. Because this is a more recent issue of Dollybird, it covers the Dolls Party 25 Limited Edition SDs and DDs, as well as the Dolpa 25 Tenshi-no-Sumika items!
Dollybird always goes quick, so if I’ve managed to pique your interest, definitely snag a copy of Volume 16 before it’s gone!
