You know, one of the great things about our Mini Super Dollfies are their versatility. Any sculpt can look young, old, sweet, goth, and anything in between! There are so many possibilities with the right make-up, and today we’re going to show you some new make-up techniques to help achieve that specific look you may have been searching for.
Meet Kohaku:
He is an older version MSDB Assembly Kit, and one of our very special showroom models. Kohaku was recently painted by Sayuri to portray an older, and visual-rocker appearance. He has a lot of style, right? Let’s see exactly what special techniques Sayuri implemented to create this look.
Here you can see up-close at Kohaku’s almost finished make-up:
As you can see, Kohaku has very heavy blushing around his forehead and cheeks. Sayuri had to apply four layers of the ZM Make Pastel/Base Makeup Color to acheive this look. To build the color up, Sayuri used the ZM Finishing Powder Spray after each layer of pastel.
For the eyelids, Sayuri used the
ZM Make Pastel/ No. 02-Visual for it’s vivid color palette. The eyeshadow Kohaku is wearing is a mixture of the Black, Dark Red, and Light Purple from this set and is a great color for either boys or girls.
In addition to pastels, Sayuri also used acrylic paints. Kohaku’s thick and dark eyeliner not only adds to his visual look, but also brings focus to his eyes. For his eyebrows, Sayuri painted thicker and sharper brushstrokes for a more choppy, and masculine look. And for a realistic touch, Sayuri even painted vertical lips lines on Kohaku’s small lips.
Overall, Kohaku’s make-up is very heavy because it is meant to be dramatic and make it seem that Kohaku is actually wearing “make-up”. But, as mentioned earlier, Kohaku is not finished Yet.
Next:
After finishing Kohaku’s base make-up, Sayuri decided to add some ZM Shine Pearl/Gold to the face. Using Shine Pearl on the face adds a subtle glitter and shine, and is a simple technique that is used on some of our One-Off Models. To do this technique, Sayuri used a large, soft cosmetic brush as pictured above. She poured a little bit of the Shine Pearl on a palette and then used the brush to lightly spread the Shine Pearl onto Kohaku’s face. After she finished applying the Shine Pearl, she then coated the face thoroughly one final time with the ZM Finishing Spray.
After the last coating, Sayuri was then able to add a final touch of gloss to Kohaku’s lips and eyelids. Sayuri even mixed in a little Shine Pearl with the gloss before applying it!
After completing Kohaku’s make-up, Sayuri moved on to attach some eyelashes. Sayuri wanted to attach eyelashes that would compliment Kohaku’s eye make-up, so she used both the WT1/Dark Brown and WT1/Red eyelashes.
Attaching two sets of eyelashes is a great technique for achieving fuller lashes, or a unique look, so why not try it!
First:
Sayuri carefully removed the eyelashes from their packaging and laid them out on a palette. Then, she sized the lashes in the eyes, and cut them to the appropriate lengths using the Tamiya Modeler’s Knife. Sayuri only wanted a portion of the Red lashes to show at the ends of the eyelid, so she cut them significantly smaller than the Dark Brown lashes.
Next:
Sayuri attached the main eyelashes first, which were the Dark Brown, then she carefully attached the Red lashes second.
Once the eyelashes dried, a pair of 16mm HG Glass Eyes/Vermilion (W), a wig, and a cool outfit was slapped on Kohaku, and he was then ready to rock out on our blog, and in our showroom. Do you like his style? If so, why not try to create a similar style for your SD?
Once again, we hope you’ve enjoyed this post and look forward to more make-up tutorials and tips. Till next time~
