We get a lot of questions about our ZM Finishing Powder Spray UV-Cut.
What is it? How do I use it? What do I do if X happens?
In this entry we are going to try to answer any basic questions and give you some useful tips concerning this product. As always, if you have any questions please email us!
First of all, what is it? ZM Finishing Powder Spray UV-Cut (reffered to as ZM Spray after this) is a matte, UV-protectant finishing spray which is made by Volks.
It is similar and comparable to another popular product, Mr. Super Clear UV-Cut Flat.
ZM Spray can be used for Super Dollfie, for garage kits, and for plastic models. It gives a velvety, matte finish to your project and helps to keep out harmful UV rays.
One can will last you for a long time. It should be able to cover approximately 16.5 square feet (1.53 square meters)!
How is it used?
There are several things to keep in mind when using ZM Spray.
You should always try to use it on a sunny, dry day. Using it when it is cold or humid outside may cause problems. It may not spray, or dry correctly.
Shake it very well before using it. When you first receive it you will most likely not be able to hear the ball inside the can. Shake it until you can hear the ball moving, and some after that.
Make sure that you clean up any dust or impurities from the surface before spraying. For unpainted surfaces you can wash it with some water and gentle soap. For unpainted resin surfaces, if you want them very clean you can use Cast Clean, which will remove most any impurities. Make sure not to get Cast Clean on your hands. Wear gloves if possible because it can strip the oils from your skin.
For painted surfaces you can use a soft brush or similar, but be careful not to scratch your paint. You can also blow the dust away.
Make sure you hold the piece about 12in (30cm) away from the can.
It is best to spray it in light coats, building it up in light layers.
When spraying, move the object you are coating as well as the can, spraying in short bursts. Spraying directly without moving the can, or spraying continuously can cause problems like build up, or dripping. Since the spray, like any matte finishing spray, does have a very fine powder in it it can show up white if you let it build up too thickly.
Keep the spray nozzle clean. Wipe it off after every use. You can also hold it upside down and spray it for two seconds if you are concerned about blockage.
If you’re having trouble spraying it try warming it up by holding it in your hands, against your body. As the can gets cool the air pressure in the can will go down so often warming it up a bit helps.
Do not use it for a long time continuously. If it is sprayed for too long the air pressure in the can will lower and you will have trouble spraying. If this happens leave it alone for a little bit and then warm it up in your hands.
Don’t use it near open flames, or anywhere that it could catch excessive heat as it is highly flammable. Also make sure to keep it out of excessive heat when storing it. Temperatures at or above 104 Farenheit (40 Celsius) are dangerous.
