Did you know that different make-up can drastically change the look of the same sculpt? It’s true! Just look at our twin Dollfie Dreams:
Today we are going to show you in detail the differences between the two, along with a few techniques, in the hope that you will hone your painting skills and knowledge from our previousDollfie Dream painting tutorial. You have been practicing, right?
Now that you have seen our twin Aois, were you really convinced that the DD on the left was really Aoi? We could hardly believe it ourselves! But, we have proof that our twins are really the same sculpt as you can see here:
Above you can see Image Character Aoi on the left, and our Custom Aoi on the right, that is before Sayuri painted her. Did you notice that the two Aoi have different skin colors?
As some of you may have already known, Image Character Aoi only comes in Natural skin. While the HDD-02 Option Head, aka Aoi sculpt, comes in both White and Natural skin and with Open or Closed Eyeholes! So, our Custom Aoi is a HDD-02/Eyehols Opened/White Option Head.
Image Character Aoi is a very popular DD, as she should be! She’s cute, but Aoi’s make-up is very anime-like, and gives her a very strong impression. So, our goal was to make an Aoi with a gentle, mature, and more realistic face. Aoi, transform!
Transformation one:
In the picture above you can see that Sayuri painted a draft first. Here, you can already see the differences in expression between the two Aois. But, what is it exactly that makes the two so different? Let’s examine!
The eyebrows on our Custom Aoi have a nice and natural curve shape. Also, the space between the eye crease and the eyebrow is very narrow- creating a more mature look. Also, her eye crease was painted longer, which adds a bit more emphasis to the eyes. Painting a longer eye crease can make adding eye shadow easier later on!
As for the eye line, the upper eye line on our Custom Aoi is painted in a downward curvature, around the eye, and the lower eye line is not as sharp as Image Character Aoi.
Lastly, Sayuri added upper and lower eyelashes for a realistic touch!
Transformation two:
Here, Sayuri painted the final draft of the eye area. When choosing the final colors, Sayuri had to be a little more cautious because of Custom Aoi’s White skin color, so she tested the colors on Aoi’s head cap before application, which is something we recommend you to do as well!
For the final colors, Sayuri chose to paint the eye line a darker brown than the eyebrows to focus more attention to eyes. But, the eyebrows have a charm of their own.
For the eyebrows, Sayuri painted the outline of the shape first:
Then she painted the inside in with brush strokes-creating a stylized, yet natural eyebrow like this:
These eyebrows are fairly simple to paint, so you might want to try this same technique!
Transformation three:
Next, Sayuri painted the lips. Notice that Sayuri painted fuller lips on Custom Aoi in comparison to Image Character Aoi. Painting a fuller lip adds a bit more depth, and realsim, and personally, I think a fuller lip is very appealing. What do you think?
For the lips, Sayuri also used a color that is very natural, and feminine, which can be acheived by mixing light brown, red, and white paint. But, please note that the same color will look different on Normal Skin, so mix it out and test it first.
Transformation four:
After painting the lips and lightly blushing the face, Sayuri decided to try something different by adding teeth!
Using a little bit of white, Sayuri painted in a small portion in the crease of the mouth like this:
The teeth Sayuri has painted has given Custom Aoi the appearence of an open, smiling mouth.
After adding some gloss and and a pair of Animetic Eyes, Custom Aoi was finished!
We hope you enjoyed the transformation of our Custom Aoi, and learned a few techniques, if not a few ideas. You may even want Dollfie Dream twins of your own now! I know I do! =^_^=
