February 2nd was Setsubun in Japan.
Setsubun is a traditional ceremony that we usually celebrate with family. We throw beans out of the house while we say “Oni wa soto! (Demons, go away!)”, and we throw beans into the house saying “Fuku wa uchi! (Luck, come in!)”. Then we eat the leftover beans, the same number as our age. So, this ceremony is also called “Mame-maki (Throwing Beans).”
In western Japan, we also prepare sushi-rolls for dinner. We eat the entire sushi-roll, without cutting it! If someone can eat the entire sushi-roll without making a sound, that person will be lucky for that year! (Doesn’t it sound easy? No! My siblings especially were silly. We all tried to finish our own sushi-roll as quickly as possible and then joke around to make the others laugh!)
Natsuki and Moe enjoyed their Setsubun together!
Natsuki: It’s Setsubun today! Let’s do Mame-maki together! To be fair, let’s decide who will play the demon’s part by rock, paper, scissors! (DDII-H-08 Normal / White)

Together: Rock, paper, scissors! (Moe DDII-H-04 Normal / White) (Natsuki DDII-H-02 Normal / White)

Natsuki: OK! I won! So you play the demon, Moe! (DDII-H-03 Normal / White)

Moe: Natsuki-chan! That’s too strong! (DDII-H-04 Normal / White)
Moe: Ouch! It hurts! Don’t throw the beans so hard! (DDII-H-04 Normal / White)
Moe: Come on! I’m telling you, it hurts~~~! (DDII-H-05 Normal / White)
Natsuki: Wow! I’m sorry! Let’s eat beans together! (DDII-H-04 Normal / White)
